Autumn : 2024

Dear Cub Members,

Welcome to the Autumn Term at Bristol Music Club.

Following the successful damp-proofing and renovation of the Hall, Foyer, Bar and Kitchen last Summer, damp-proofing and renovation of the remaining parts of the club has been underway during the past month. The Green Room, Practice Room, emergency exit and ladies and gents toilets have been damp-proofed, and refurbishment is currently being completed. External painting will follow in September, ready for re-opening after the first week of October, and internal painting will be delayed to allow new plaster to dry out fully beforehand.

Consequently, as previously indicated, while the works in the Club are being completed the first three concerts of the term will take place in St Paul’s Church, by the kind permission of the Vicar and PCC.. We have eight excellent and varied concerts, as you will see from the attached programme (also on the Club websitehttps://bristol-music-club.co.uk/ ). We look forward to the first concert this term on Tuesday 3rd September by Rustom Battiwalla and ‘Los Picantes’, which includes Bartok’s Six Roumanian Folk Dances. On 17th September Jonathan Eve’s Cormorant Quartet perform Robert Schumann’s First Quartet; followed after the interval by the first visit of the Bristol Trombone Collective, including Tiburtio Massaino’s Canzon per 8 Tromboni and J S Bach’s harmonisation of Martin Luther’ hymn, Ein feste Burg. On 1st October: the Ciroc Quartet perform two Shostakovich string quartets (nos 1 and 6), and on 15th October we will be back in the Club for Joseph Najnudel’s performance of Debussy’s Children’s Corner, and his own Couleurs Enfantines.

We look forward to seeing you at out concerts, and please bring along friends if possible, so that they can enjoy the high standard of musicianship in our friendly atmosphere, and be inspired to join as members.

With many thanks for your continuing support, and best wishes,

Victor Barley

On behalf of the Music Club Committee.
