Dear Club Members,
The Club has now completed the purchase of a new piano to replace the Bosendorfer. The new piano is a Boston 193. Boston is a brand by the famous piano manufacturer Steinway & Sons, their line of pianos before a Steinway, and above their entry brand ‘Essex’. Boston pianos are built by the popular and well respected manufacturer Kawai in Hamamatsu, Japan. Rustom performed a concerto on it after the recent AGM.. It sounded very good indeed. Our thanks must be given to the piano sub-committee , Rustom, Helen and Clare who have spent many hours travelling and trying pianos in all different locations.
Concert by The Metropolitan Orchestra at St George’s Bristol, Saturday 23rd June 2018 at 7.30p.m. The programme is Barber – Second Essay for Orchestra, Opus 17, Dvoȓák – Symphony No. 9 “From the New World”, Gershwin – Rhapsody in Blue. Soloist Tomáš Klement, Conductor – Karin Hendrickson. The ticket prices are £15, concessions £14, (prices to be confirmed) reserved seats. Tickets for members can be purchased at half price from Brian Burdock on club nights or by posting a SAE to him at 42 Rodbourne Road, Bristol BS10 5AS. Members may also purchase additional tickets for non-members at full price. As there is now a limited number of tickets available early purchase is recommended. The last Club evening at which tickets can be purchased will be Tuesday 5th June.
Sue Burdock has asked me to remind members that she is still accepting unwanted music which can then be put out for sale on Club evenings and the money raised goes towards the upkeep of the pianos. This has been a very successful way of helping with these costs.
Lastly, enclosed is the Summer Term programme. There are some really excellent programmes on offer and the concerts begin again on Tuesday 24th April 2018.
